About Pianumero

Pianumero teaches the piano with numbers. Each key a song uses wears a coloured sticker with a number, from the lowest key to the highest: to play the song, press the numbers in order. No sheet music, one hand, white keys only — you play your first song in a minute.

Free songs, for everyone

Every melody on this site is in the public domain: folk songs, nursery rhymes, and Beethoven's Ode to Joy (1824). The easy one-hand arrangements, the number sheets and the MIDI files are free to use and share for learning — send them to a friend, print them, play them in class.

"Happy Birthday to You" (Mildred and Patty Hill) has been in the public domain in the United States since 2016 and in Europe since 2017. La Bamba here is the traditional Mexican song, not a recording or arrangement of it.

Play with your computer keyboard

On a song, press 1, 2, 3…: the numbers on the keys. Or use the letters shown on the keys (they follow your keyboard's layout). On the free piano, Z and X move an octave down or up.

How the songs are made

Each song is written note by note as a short one-hand arrangement in C major (white keys only), from its traditional melody. A script checks every song before it is published: each bar is complete, every syllable of the words falls on one note, and every note is within reach of a beginner's hand (from G below middle C to G above). The same arrangements drive the lessons, the number sheets, the letter notes and the MIDI files.

Your progress

A free account keeps your stars and best scores on every song. It needs an email and a password, nothing else; you can delete it, with everything in it, at any time.
